Maseru- David Seliane’s meteoric rise in the Gospel music industry has been nothing short of divine intervention. From his humble beginnings as a backing vocalist to clinching the prestigious “Best Gospel Singer” award at the 2024 Lesotho Music Awards( LMA24), is testament to his unwavering faith and passion for sharing the word of God through music.
The Beginning Of A Gospel Journey David officially entered the Gospel scene in 2023, a year that would set his foundation for his flourishing career. His debut single, “Oya Hloleha Ke Ho Hloleha” released in 2024, was an instant hit. “People loved it so much”, he says, as he reflects on how the song resonated with listeners and marked his arrival on the Gospel stage.
Before stepping into the spotlight, David honed his craft alongside some of the most prominent names in Gospel music. As a backing vocalist, he supported Minister Spokes during the recording of his live album, “I Am Grateful” and lent his voice to artists like Puleng March and Esethu from the renowned Joyous Celebration. These experiences not only sharpened his vocal prowess but also deepened his commitment to the genre.
Faith And Influences
For David, Gospel music is more than a career- it is a calling. “I love God so much; that is why I chose to sing gospel,” he shares. Inspired by legends like Jumbo and Londiwe Sphe Nxumalo from South Africa, as well as Lesotho’s very own, Neo Matee, David channels his faith into every note he sings.
A Surprising Win
Winning the “LMA24 Best Gospel Singer” award was an unexpected yet humbling experience for David. “Honestly, I was not expecting it because I was nominated alongside some of the biggest artists in the country,” he admits. Hearing his name announced as the winner left him in awe. David celebrated the milestone with close friends, but his gratitude extends far beyond his inner circle. “ I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I promise all my fans that I will keep delivering my best,” he says with heartfelt sincerity.
A Song To Remember
The hit single “Oya Hloleha Ke Ho Hloleha” that captured the hearts of many holds a special place in David’s catalogue. The words, “Oya Hloleha Ke Ho Hloleha Jehova Oa Makhotla” have become his words to live by as they emphasize the song’s spiritual and motivational impact.
Winning the award has boosted David’s confidence and given him a clearer vision for his future. “It has shown me where our industry is headed,” he observes, adding that he hopes that more Gospel artists will have the opportunity to perform on stage in future editions of the Lesotho Music Awards as this edition did not have Gospel performers.
Looking Ahead And A Dedication To Love
David’s immediate focus is on the release of his highly anticipated album, “Lifela tsa Bakriste”, a collection of Catholic Hymns set to drop later this month. Beyond that, his ambitions stretch very far. “In 3 to 5 years, I want to see myself in the same spaces as Spirit Of Praise and work with upcoming artists,” he shares.
On the 1st of March 2025, David will take the stage in South Africa, performing alongside Gospel powerhouses like Sindi Ntombela and Sis Kholeka, thanks to an invitation from the legendary Londiwe Sphe Nxumalo. The performance marks another milestone in his blossoming career. While this award is a personal achievement, David dedicates it to his late mother. “I love her so much”, he says, a constant reminder of the love and inspiration that fuels his music.
