Maseru- In the world of music, some stories shine brighter than others, marked by talent, perseverance and passion. For Flash Cortez, a rising music producer whose career is a testament to dedication, the phrase “Ha li otloe Cortez” which can be interpreted in multiple ways , with this particular one “Let’s keep going, Cortez” perfectly describing his journey to the “Best Producer” award at the 4th Annual Lesotho Music Awards (LMAs).

A Musical Upbringing Born Kislev Ramanyimi, in Venda, South Africa, Cortez’s love for music dates back to his childhood. Born into a musically inclined family, he inherited his talent from his parents. His father, a skilled bass guitarist, and his mother, a gifted singer, became his earliest inspiration.

“I started playing drums at the age of three,” he recalls with a smile. “ Music was always around me. Before becoming a producer, I was playing drums at church, a community brass band, and also a jazz band.”

Despite the rich foundation, breaking into the music industry was no easy feat. At 15 years, Cortez began creating and producing his own music after struggling to gain opportunities at established studios. “Other artists made it hard for me to work in their spaces, so I decided to start doing things my way, “he explains.

The Spark Of Inspiration

Cortez’s versatility and his parents’ unwavering support fueled his drive to push boundaries. His journey was also shaped by his admiration for the renowned artist, Malome Vector. “I grew up listening to a lot of Malome Vector’s music,” he shares.

Years later, as fate would have it, Cortez started working alongside his childhood idol and thus became a dream realized. “Being in Lesotho was surreal because the person I grew up listening to was the one who started opening doors for me. It felt like everything had come full circle.”

The Award That Changed Everything

The pinnacle of Cortez’s career thus far came when his work earned him his first international award which also marks his first award, that being the above mentioned “Best Producer” award. “This is a sign that my work is being recognized,” he proudly said.

Recalling the moment his name was announced as the winner, Cortez admits, “I was shaking like nobody’s business. Everyone expected me to win, but I still couldn’t believe it when they called my name. I jumped out of my chair in excitement.”

The victory was even sweeter given the stiff competition he faced. “I was up against some incredible producers, which made the win a complete surprise.”

Cortez celebrated this milestone with a small party, but his most meaningful moment came when he brought the award home to his mother. “Handing her that award was everything. It is a reminder of the sacrifices and support she has given me.”

Gratitude And Looking Ahead

For Cortez, success is not just about accolades- it is about the people who have supported him along the way. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has believed in me. Your encouragement has made a huge impact on my journey.”

In regards to the future, Cortez continues to get hungrier as he is determined to push boundaries, create unique sounds and build on his legacy. “ Ha Li Otloe Cortez!” is not just a catchphrase for him; but instead a reflection of his untouchable spirit and his unwavering commitment to excellence.

The producer’s journey is proof that with talent, resilience, and the right support, dreams can indeed turn into reality. As he continue to rise, Flash Cortez is a name that will undoubtedly remain untouchable in the music industry.
